Buckeye scored all five of its runs in the first two innings Monday, then held off a late push to beat Normandy 5-4 at Normandy High School. Logan Brown delivered the decisive swing, a three-run home run to left field in the second inning, and finished with four RBIs to lead the Bucks in the varsity baseball win.

Brown set the tone early. His RBI double after a six-pitch at-bat gave Buckeye a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Bucks broke the game open in the second, stretching the advantage to 5-0. Shane Metter drove in a run on a groundout before Brown came through again, this time launching a three-run homer to left that supplied the biggest moment of the afternoon.

That early cushion proved necessary because Normandy answered after falling behind by five runs. The Invaders chipped away with a rally built on a double, an error, a single and another double, trimming the margin and turning the final innings into a tight finish. Buckeye, though, did enough on the mound and in the field to keep the comeback from becoming a complete turnaround.

Zachary Stough earned the win for Buckeye after working 5 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits and three runs, only one of them earned, while striking out four and walking two. Peyton Wolf took the loss for Normandy after allowing five runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Tyler Heers closed out the game to earn the save as the Bucks finished off the one-run victory. Brown’s two-hit, four-RBI day accounted for most of Buckeye’s offense, and the early production stood up just long enough for the team to leave Normandy High School with a 5-4 result.
