MEDINA, Ohio - Brown went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as Buckeye defeated Rocky River 10-0 on Thursday in the OHSAA sectional finals at Buckeye Senior High School.

The decisive stretch came across the second and third innings, when the Bucks turned a close game into a rout. Buckeye broke through in the bottom of the second after an error brought home the game’s first run, then Brown followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0. The Bucks added five more runs in the third, with Hamman singling in a run, Metter doubling home two, and Brown capping the inning with a two-run home run to left field for an 8-0 lead.

Brown accounted for Buckeye’s biggest offensive night, finishing with a double in the first inning, a two-run single in the second and a two-run homer in the third. Perkins added two hits in three at-bats, and the Bucks totaled nine hits overall. Buckeye also showed patience throughout the lineup, drawing six walks, with Costigan leading the way with two. The Bucks stayed aggressive on the bases as well, stealing four bases.

Heers handled the rest on the mound. The Buckeye right-hander worked five scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out nine and walking two. Rocky River starter Rush took the loss after giving up eight runs, five earned, on eight hits over three innings. Cook, Hurt, Maslar, Gorius and Powe each had one hit for the Pirates.

Buckeye backed the pitching with a clean defensive performance, committing no errors. Seeley was especially active in the field and finished with a team-high nine chances. The win sends the Bucks forward after a complete effort that featured timely hitting, steady pitching and sound defense.
