Buckeye broke the game open early and never let North Olmsted back in, rolling to a 10-0 conference win Tuesday at Buckeye High School behind a sharp outing from Tyler Heers and a three-hit day from Rees Perkins.

The decisive stretch came in the bottom of the second inning, when the Bucks scored four times to seize control. Zachary Stough singled home the first run of the game, another run scored on an error, and Shane Metter added a two-run single to make it 4-0. Buckeye added on in the third when Stough lifted a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 5-0 and giving Heers even more room to work.

Heers made sure that cushion held up. The Buckeye starter threw six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine and walking three. North Olmsted struggled to generate consistent offense against him, and Buckeye’s defense backed the effort in a game the Bucks controlled from the mound and in the field. Luis Bautista took the loss for the Eagles after allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits over three innings. He struck out two and walked four.

Perkins set the tone offensively from the lower part of the order, finishing 3 for 4 with singles in the second, fourth and sixth innings. The bottom of Buckeye’s lineup played a major role in the result, with Perkins, Aaron Hamman and Stough combining for six of the team’s nine hits. That group also scored five runs and drove in two, helping keep pressure on North Olmsted throughout the afternoon.

Buckeye’s production was spread throughout the order. Metter, Stough and Logan Brown each drove in two runs, and Brown also stole two bases. The Bucks showed patience at the plate as well, drawing nine walks. Jeff Costigan and Heers led the team with three walks apiece, turning several plate appearances into scoring opportunities and helping Buckeye build the final 10-run margin.

With the shutout victory, Buckeye paired timely hitting with dominant pitching in one of its most complete efforts of the season. The Bucks finished with nine hits, held North Olmsted scoreless across six innings and got standout performances from both Heers on the mound and Perkins at the plate.
