Buckeye boys, girls finish strong at district bowling; Miller, Reuter headline Bucks’ efforts
Buckeye High School’s boys and girls bowling teams turned in solid performances at the district tournament Sunday in Lorain, with both squads posting competitive totals and pushing the Buckeye program onto the postseason stage. The boys rolled a 2,769 series in three regulation games and added 1,102 pins in Baker play for a 3,871 overall total, while the girls compiled 2,423 in regulation and 912 in Bakers to finish at 3,335. Those efforts placed the boys 13th and the girls 8th in a deep district field.
Senior Kevin Miller delivered the standout performance for the Buckeye boys, leading the team with a 659 series across his three games. That total left him just one spot short of qualifying for the state tournament as an individual, underscoring how fine the margins were at the district level. Even without the state berth, Miller’s series anchored the Bucks’ 2,769 regulation total and set the standard for the lineup throughout the day.
On the girls side, Aubrey Reuter provided a similar spark, pacing Buckeye with a 609 series in three games. Reuter’s consistency across the block helped the Bucks stay in contention for a top finish and pushed the team to an 8th-place showing overall. Her performance was central to the girls’ 2,423 regulation-pin total and gave Buckeye a reliable presence at the top of the lineup in a pressure-packed district setting. It was also enough to finish as the top individual and qualify for a spot at the OHSAA State Tournament! She becomes the first bowling state qualifier in Buckeye history!
The Bucks’ boys used their Baker games to round out a steady day on the lanes, adding 1,102 pins in the Baker rotation to push their final mark to 3,871. That Baker total reflected solid contributions from throughout the lineup, as Buckeye tried to climb the standings in the later stages of the event. While the 13th-place finish left the boys outside the qualifying range for state, the combination of Miller’s near-miss individually and the team’s Bakers showed the program’s competitive potential.
For the girls, the 912 Baker total proved to be a key component of their 3,335-pin finish and helped secure a top-10 result. As the games tightened and totals across the field bunched together, Buckeye’s ability to post a strong Baker block allowed the Bucks to maintain their position. The blend of Reuter’s leading series and the team’s collective work in the Bakers highlighted the depth developing within the girls program.
Both squads now turn their attention to building on the district experience, with Miller and Reuter’s performances serving as benchmarks for what is possible at the next level. Though state qualification narrowly eluded the Bucks this time, the totals posted in Lorain indicate that Buckeye has a foundation in place to contend in future postseason runs. The district results offered a clear picture of progress, as the Bucks continue to gain traction in one of the season’s most demanding environments.
