Buckeye Boys Place Seventh, Girls Finish 10th at Avon Lake Early Bird Invite

Buckeye’s boys placed seventh on a tiebreaker and the girls finished 10th in a competitive field Saturday at the Avon Lake Early Bird Invite. The boys scored 170 points, while the girls totaled 285 in foggy, warm and humid conditions. Dimitry Pshonyak led the Bucks with a third-place finish in the boys race, and Hannah Dugan paced the girls in 28th.
The boys matched conference rival Lakewood in the team standings but fell to seventh through the displacement tiebreaker. Buckeye also finished seven points behind Westlake, giving the Bucks a close look at where they stand against two opponents they expect to see again during the conference season. The field also included conference rivals Bay, North Olmsted, Normandy and Valley Forge.
Buckeye’s front of the pack produced two top-10 performances. Dimitry Pshonyak secured third place, and Joe Stahl followed in ninth, giving the Bucks a strong foundation for their 170-point total. With two runners near the front, the final team placement came down to the depth of the scoring pack and the displacement positions behind it.
The narrow margins provided an early benchmark for a boys team whose goal is to win the conference championship. Seven points separated Buckeye from Westlake, and the deadlock with Lakewood showed how much each place can matter. Closing the gaps within the pack and gaining positions through the middle of the race will be important as the Bucks prepare for future meetings with their conference competition.
The girls competed in the maroon, or big-school, race and held their own despite being without their fifth runner. Hannah Dugan crossed first for Buckeye in 28th place, followed by Hayleigh Kreeger in 33rd. The Bucks finished 10th with 285 points, placing ahead of Normandy and behind Lakewood and Bay.
Buckeye will return home for the Buckeye Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 10 a.m. EDT. The meet will offer both squads another chance to strengthen their scoring packs after the boys’ tiebreaker finish and the girls’ competitive showing in the big-school race.
