Buckeye boys roll past Avon Lake behind Ambrose’s 461 series

Buckeye High School’s boys varsity bowling team picked up a key road victory Monday night, edging Avon Lake 2,459-2,334 at Nautical Lanes in Avon Lake behind a balanced lineup and a dominant anchor performance from John Ambrose.

Ambrose set the tone at the top of the Bucks’ lineup, firing games of 267 and 194 for a match-high 461 series. His opening 267 helped Buckeye establish an early cushion in team scoring that held through the two regular games and Baker play. The Bucks ultimately used that early separation and steady production across the roster to stay in front of Avon Lake’s push.

Buckeye’s depth proved decisive with three bowlers finishing within one pin of each other. Sean Chambers rolled 215 and 222 for a 437 series, while Alex Marconi followed closely with games of 226 and 210 to post a 436 series. The pair provided critical support behind Ambrose, giving the Bucks three varsity bowlers over 430 and helping drive the team’s two-game total before Bakers.

Hunter Uehlein added games of 203 and 172 for a 375 series, contributing another solid varsity line that kept the Bucks ahead on the score sheets. In the fifth spot, Buckeye split time as Gavin Onyx and Carter Fry each recorded 179 games, while SAW chipped in a 108 game. Those contributions rounded out the varsity effort and ensured Buckeye maintained enough pinfall to withstand Avon Lake’s attempts to close the gap.

Buckeye also controlled the match in Baker play, where team chemistry and execution often decide close contests. The Bucks posted Baker games of 158 and 213, using the strong 213 finish to slam the door on any late Avon Lake rally. That Baker surge helped secure the final 125-pin margin and reflected the team’s ability to perform in the shared-frame format.

The junior varsity boys followed the varsity’s lead with a solid performance of their own, giving Buckeye a sweep on the night. The JV Bucks defeated Avon Lake 1,724-1,626, adding to a successful trip and showcasing depth throughout the program.

With the win, Buckeye’s boys program continued to build momentum in the heart of the schedule. Behind standout individual efforts from Ambrose, Chambers and Marconi, along with timely Baker scoring, the Bucks left Avon Lake with a complete team performance and a road victory to build upon in upcoming conference action.
