MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye High School Athletics finished ninth among 27 boys varsity cross country teams Saturday, Oct. 10, in Medina's Milt Place invitational, with senior Dimitry Pshonyak taking fifth in 16:09 and Joe Stahl seventh in 16:15. Junior captain Lily Regiec led the Buckeye girls with a course personal record of 22:23, placing 104th. The girls finished 21st among 27 teams, while the boys junior varsity placed sixth in its 27-team field.

The boys varsity posted a record-fast team average despite resting Gavin Waibel. Behind Pshonyak and Stahl, Nolan Rieth finished in 17:27, followed by Nick Rieth in 17:47 and John Galayda III in 17:50 to complete the scoring five. Buckeye's displacers stayed close to that group, with Cam Wyman finishing in 17:51 and Bennett Knapp in 17:59. Sophomore Brant Anderson added a season-best time of 18:00.

Personal records highlighted the girls' race as the Bucks competed without Hayleigh Kreeger or Hannah Dugan, who rested for the weekend. Lila Hoover followed Regiec in 22:34, and Mackenzie Anderson crossed in 22:41, both setting personal bests. Those three runners finished within 18 seconds of one another at the front of Buckeye's lineup. Aria Knight ran a course personal record in 23:41, and Riley Onyx completed the scoring group with a personal-best 24:13.

We're really close to putting together the perfect scoring pack.

Kate Shearer and Anna Kosman filled the girls' displacer positions in 24:23 and 24:39, respectively. Shearer finished 10 seconds behind Onyx, with Kosman another 16 seconds back. Freshman Ganen Losh also lowered a personal record, finishing in 29:27.

A close-running pack powered the boys junior varsity's sixth-place result. Sophomore Vinny Joy led the group with a 22nd-place finish in 18:25. Nick Sekerek Jr. followed in 18:50, Jackson Plisko finished in 18:51 and Paul Abbott crossed in 18:54. Just four seconds separated those three scorers, giving Buckeye a tightly grouped middle behind Joy.

Aiden Williamson rounded out the junior varsity scoring five in 19:40. Ben Naso followed three seconds later in 19:43 as the team's first displacer, and Brandon Sharkus completed the displacing pair in 20:11.
