Buckeye closes on 9-0 run to top Normandy 63-55

Buckeye used a decisive 9-0 run in the final minutes to pull away from Normandy, securing a 63-55 home victory in conference play Tuesday night at Buckeye High School.

The Bucks led by one at halftime, then created separation by taking control in the third quarter with a 17-10 edge out of the locker room. Normandy responded with a push of its own and briefly moved in front by a point late in the fourth quarter, but Buckeye answered immediately. Locked in defensively and efficient at the free throw line, the Bucks closed the game on a 9-0 run to turn a one-point deficit into an eight-point win.

Junior guard Austin Hyre paced Buckeye with 19 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Hyre provided offense throughout the night, stretching Normandy’s defense on the perimeter and converting at the stripe to finish off drives and late-game possessions. His outside shooting helped open the floor for Buckeye’s interior attack.

In the paint, Turner Dolata delivered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also hitting 5 of 6 free throws. Dolata’s work on the glass gave Buckeye valuable second-chance opportunities and limited Normandy to single-shot trips on key possessions. His presence at both ends was a major factor in the Bucks’ strong third quarter and in preventing Normandy from extending its brief fourth-quarter lead.

Jacob Snyderburn added 11 points, including two 3-pointers, and came through at the line when it mattered most. Snyderburn went 4-for-4 on free throws in the closing stretch to help seal the victory during the Bucks’ 9-0 run. Derek Snyderburn contributed 7 points and also went 5-for-5 at the stripe, as Buckeye’s guards repeatedly converted in pressure situations to keep Normandy from mounting a final comeback.

On the defensive end, Logan Brown set the tone with relentless effort and hustle plays, applying pressure on the perimeter and disrupting Normandy’s rhythm. Brown’s energy, combined with team defense that tightened in the second half, allowed Buckeye to hold Normandy to 10 points in the third quarter and scoreless over the final possessions after the Invaders had taken the late lead.

With the 63-55 win, Buckeye not only protected its home floor but also showed late-game composure in conference play, answering Normandy’s surge with clutch free-throw shooting, key rebounds and a decisive closing run.
