Buckeye Finishes Third in CWC as Kujat Leads Two-Tournament Stretch

Buckeye closed the Cleveland West Conference season in third place after shooting a 332 in the conference championship final round Sept. 16 at Grey Hawk Golf Club. The Bucks placed fourth among eight teams in Round 4, led by sophomore Wyatt Kujat’s 79 and fifth-place individual finish.
Kujat opened with a 40 and improved to a 39 on the closing nine. Sophomore Michael Valus followed with an 83, using rounds of 42 and 41 to finish 14th. Senior Andy Kost and junior Benjamin Lange supplied the other two counting scores, each carding an 85 and tying for 18th. Kost closed with a 41 after an opening 44, while Lange recorded Buckeye’s lowest nine-hole score of the day with a 39 before finishing with a 46.
Those rounds of 79, 83, 85 and 85 produced Buckeye’s 332 team total and four conference points. Junior Cam Morton finished 25th with an 86 after nines of 44 and 42, and junior Ian Collins shot 47-46 for a 93 and 38th place. Rocky River won the final round with a 321, followed by Bay at 325 and Westlake at 328. Valley Forge shot 337, Lakewood 338, North Olmsted 343 and Normandy 348.
The Bucks completed the four-round conference progression with scores of 326, 329, 338 and 332. They earned six points in each of the first two rounds, two in Round 3 and four in the final for 18 overall. That placed Buckeye behind conference champion Rocky River, which swept all four rounds and totaled 28 points, and runner-up Bay, which finished with 21. Buckeye edged Westlake by one point for third.
Buckeye was one of only three teams in the conference to have every golfer earn all-conference recognition. Valus led the Bucks with first-team honors, while Lange, Morton, and Kost were named to the second team. Kujat and Collins rounded out the group with honorable mention recognition.
