Buckeye High School’s girls swimming team turned in a strong night of racing at the Westlake Recreation Center on Friday, earning a split in a double dual against Westlake and Elyria Catholic and setting two team records in the process.

The Bucks defeated Elyria Catholic 61-51 while falling to a deep Westlake squad 104-41. Despite the loss to the Demons, Buckeye’s lineup produced several standout performances, highlighted by multiple top-three finishes and a pair of record-breaking swims in individual and relay events.

Distance specialist Abby Parrott led the way in the individual events, claiming second place in both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Parrott’s consistency in the middle-distance and distance races provided key points in the win over Elyria Catholic and helped anchor the Bucks’ overall performance against both opponents.

One of the biggest moments of the night came from junior flyer and backstroker Maddie Kreeger. Kreeger finished third in the 100-yard butterfly while breaking the team record in the event with a time of 1:22.39. She followed that performance with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke, giving Buckeye another strong scoring effort in the back half of the meet.

Buckeye also showed well in the relays. The 200 medley relay of Marilyn McWilliam, Tessa Schell, Bobbie Zarobell and Amy Justice opened the meet with a third-place finish, setting the tone against both Westlake and Elyria Catholic. Later in the meet, the Bucks’ 200 freestyle relay delivered one of the highlight performances of the night, taking second place and breaking the program record with a time of 2:07.48. That relay featured Kreeger, Zarobell and Maddie Dahlquist, along with an additional teammate as part of the record-setting quartet.

In the sprints, McWilliam contributed a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, adding depth in one of the most competitive events on the schedule. Schell provided another marquee swim for the Bucks with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, continuing Buckeye’s momentum in the closing events of the meet.

Between the team victory over Elyria Catholic, competitive efforts against Westlake and two new team records, the Bucks left Westlake with tangible progress and momentum. Buckeye’s mix of seasoned swimmers and emerging standouts positioned the team well as it moves deeper into the winter schedule and prepares for conference and postseason competition.
