Buckeye Girls Finish as District Runner-Up, Boys Take Eighth as Both Advance
MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye High School Athletics advanced both cross country teams to regionals. Distracts were held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, with the girls finishing as district runner-up and the boys placing eighth at the OHSAA district meet. Dimitry led the boys with a seventh-place individual finish.
Joe Stahl followed in eighth place, giving the Bucks consecutive finishers inside the top 10. That seventh-eighth combination put two Buckeye runners near the front of the individual standings as the boys secured their regional berth. Just one finishing position separated the team's leading pair.
Freshman Hannah Dugan paced the girls with a 12th-place finish, delivering a significant postseason performance in a district runner-up effort. Hayleigh Kreeger followed in 15th, putting both runners among the first 15 finishers. Dugan's freshman contribution helped lead a lineup that earned the right to continue its season at regionals.
The girls' results also showed the value of a closely grouped supporting contingent. Lila Hoover finished 23rd and Lily Regiec took 26th, matching the three-place separation between Buckeye's first two finishers. Across those four performances, the Bucks occupied places within a 14-position span, with all four runners finishing in the top 26.
