Buckeye Girls Golf Earns Program's First Win With 231-238 Victory over Elyria Catholic
MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye girls golf earned the first victory in program history Friday, defeating Elyria Catholic 231-238 in a nine-hole match at Coppertop at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.
Angelina Vannello led the Bucks with a team-low 55 on the back nine. Amelia Kenney followed with a 57, and Kamille Shea added a 59. Their three rounds put Buckeye in position to secure the milestone victory, with the Bucks finishing seven strokes ahead of Elyria Catholic.
Anna Eberhardt and Valentina Barber each shot 60, giving Buckeye two options for the fourth and final counting score. Olivia Hanna completed the Bucks' lineup with a 62. Buckeye's four lowest scores combined for the winning total of 231, with one of the matching rounds of 60 completing the team score.
The Bucks produced steady scoring throughout the lineup, as all six golfers finished within seven strokes of Vannello's leading round. That balance proved important in the nine-hole format and allowed Buckeye to finish ahead of Elyria Catholic despite the close team totals.
Buckeye will return to competition at the CWC Championship at 8 a.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 17, at Big Met Golf Course in Fairview Park.
