The Buckeye girls bowling team turned in a strong day at the Amherst Holiday Roll Off at Park Lanes on Sunday, finishing second in qualifying before coming up just short of advancing into the final step-ladder match.

Buckeye posted a team total of 2,753 in qualifying to sit in second place entering the semifinals. Amherst Steele led the field at 2,972, while Open Door Christian (2,524) and Eastlake North (2,438) rounded out the top four teams that moved into the Baker-format step-ladder rounds.

The Bucks were paced by a balanced lineup highlighted by two all-tournament performances. Aubrey Reuter led Buckeye with a 516 series, anchored by a 208 high game. Leah Kaczmarski was close behind with a 503 series and a 186 high game, and both bowlers earned spots on the all-tournament team by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the individual standings.

Buckeye’s depth kept the team near the top of the leaderboard throughout qualifying. LaRyssa Hartshorn rolled a 497 series with a 181 high game, while Addison Fry added a 479 series that included a 191 high. Riley Onyx contributed a 428 series and a 172 high game as the Bucks secured the No. 2 seed heading into Baker play.

In the step-ladder Baker semifinals, Buckeye matched up with Open Door Christian in a four-game total-pinfall set. The Bucks put together games of 137, 168, 134 and 140 for a 579 Baker total. Open Door advanced by compiling games of 164, 136, 172 and 147 for a 619 total, ending Buckeye’s run just short of the final.

Open Door Christian and Eastlake North moved on to bowl for the tournament championship, while Buckeye’s day was highlighted by its second-place qualifying finish and two all-tournament honorees. The performance at Amherst gives the Bucks momentum and a solid benchmark as the team heads into the heart of the winter schedule.
