Buckeye Outlasts Normandy in Double-Overtime Road Thriller, 76-71
PARMA, Ohio — Buckeye High School battled back from a double-digit second-half deficit and rode clutch plays in the second overtime to defeat Normandy 76-71 in a conference game Tuesday night at Normandy High School.
After the teams finished regulation tied and traded blows in the first overtime, the Bucks took control for good in the second extra period. Austin Hyre opened the frame with a key 3-pointer, giving Buckeye a lead it would not relinquish. Moments later, Derek Snyderburn converted a crucial three-point play late in the second overtime, effectively sealing the five-point road win.
Buckeye trailed by as many as 11 late in the third quarter before mounting its comeback. With the Bucks in danger of letting the game slip away, Zak Stough sparked the rally by scoring seven points in the final 2:30 of the third, trimming the margin to five and shifting momentum back toward Buckeye heading into the fourth quarter.
From there, the Bucks continued to chip away, eventually drawing level by the end of regulation. Both teams scored eight points in the first overtime, extending the contest to a second extra session. Buckeye then outscored Normandy 11-6 in the second overtime, fueled by timely perimeter shooting and aggressive attacks at the rim.
Turner Dolata led Buckeye with 25 points, providing a steady scoring presence throughout the night. Hyre added 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and Stough finished with 15 points, also knocking down three shots from beyond the arc to help power the comeback and late-game surge.
In addition to the offensive standouts, the Bucks received key contributions in the grit areas during the fourth quarter and both overtimes. Jacob Snyderburn, Derek Snyderburn and Logan Brown each made several hustle plays—securing loose balls, extending possessions and tightening up defensively—to help Buckeye complete the rally and close out the game.
With the 76-71 double-overtime victory, Buckeye showed resilience in a hostile road environment and gained valuable experience in late-game, high-pressure situations as conference play continues.
