Buckeye High School turned in a balanced effort at the OHSAA Northeast District Meet on Sunday in Hudson, placing fifth in the team standings behind a 135.350 total and highlighted by a state-qualifying all-around performance from Neveah Sejka. The Bucks compiled event scores of 34.500 on vault, 31.650 on uneven bars, 34.225 on balance beam and 34.975 on floor exercise at Hudson High School.

Sejka led Buckeye with a 35.675 all-around, securing her spot at the state meet. She posted a 9.000 on bars, 9.225 on floor, 8.900 on vault and 8.550 on beam to pace the Bucks on multiple events. Her 9.225 on floor anchored Buckeye’s highest event total of the day, while her 9.000 on bars provided one of the lineup’s steadiest routines on an event that challenged teams across the field.

Behind Sejka, Miranda Pesto delivered a 33.875 all-around and was named an alternate for the state meet. Pesto scored 9.050 on vault, the team’s top mark on that event, and added an 8.500 on beam and 8.725 on floor to help solidify Buckeye’s lineups. Her work on the leg events was a key piece in the Bucks reaching 34.500 on vault and pushing close to 35 on floor.

Buckeye’s depth was evident with multiple all-around contributors. Kora Seeley posted a 33.325 all-around, highlighted by an 8.575 on beam and 8.750 on floor, giving the Bucks another steady presence in the second half of the meet. Emmalin Samosky added a 31.875 all-around, with an 8.600 on beam leading a beam squad that totaled 34.225, and an important 7.925 on vault as Buckeye opened the competition.

On the remaining events, Danica Bir and Maise McMahan provided key routines to round out the team score. Bir finished with a 31.100 all-around, including an 8.325 on beam and 7.975 on floor, contributing to both of Buckeye’s strong closing rotations. McMahan appeared on vault and floor, scoring 7.950 and 8.275, respectively, to bolster the Bucks’ totals on two of their best events. On bars, where Buckeye totaled 31.650, Leah Bengough chipped in with a 6.200 routine, and also added a 6.600 on beam to support the overall team effort.

Buckeye’s 34.975 on floor capped the meet with the team’s most complete rotation, featuring hit routines from Sejka, Pesto, Seeley, Bir and McMahan. Combined with the 34.500 vault total to open the day, the Bucks showed strength on the power events while also delivering enough consistency on beam to stay in the top five. The fifth-place finish at the Northeast District, paired with Sejka’s state qualification and Pesto’s alternate status, gives Buckeye momentum heading into the final stretch of the postseason.

With a state qualifier leading the way and others gaining valuable championship experience, the Bucks positioned themselves for continued growth in future seasons. The district meet performance reflected both the program’s current competitiveness and its developing depth across all four apparatuses.
