Buckeye Places Second at CWC Round 1 Behind Morton’s 77

Buckeye opened CWC competition with a second-place team finish Friday, posting a 326 at CWC Round 1 in Broadview Heights, Ohio. The Bucks finished 38 over par and placed behind Rocky River, which won the eight-team event with a 309.

Junior Cam Morton delivered Buckeye’s lowest round, shooting a 5-over 77 from the No. 4 position. Morton finished third overall, giving the Bucks a top-three individual performance and setting the pace for a four-player scoring total that included three rounds of 83 or better.

Michael Valus, a sophomore playing in the No. 1 position, added an 8-over 80 and placed eighth. Junior Benjamin Lange followed with an 11-over 83 from the No. 3 position, good for 10th overall. Sophomore Wyatt Kujat completed Buckeye’s counted total with a 14-over 86 and finished 14th while playing in the No. 5 spot.

Buckeye’s remaining two competitors also completed their rounds. Senior Andy Kost, the Bucks’ No. 2 player, shot a 16-over 88 and placed 18th. Ian Collins (JR), playing from the No. 6 position, finished 25th with an 18-over 90. Clear skies and light winds of 3 mph accompanied the opening round, with temperatures ranging from 66 to 80 degrees.

The Bucks’ 326 gave them a nine-stroke advantage over third-place Westlake, which finished at 335. Bay placed fourth with a 337, followed by Lakewood at 347, Normandy at 359, Valley Forge at 378 and North Olmsted at 394. Buckeye finished 17 strokes behind Rocky River, with Morton’s 77 standing as the key individual result in the runner-up showing.

Buckeye hosts the Buckeye Cup Shootout at Bunker Hill Golf Course on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. EST.
