Buckeye swimmers punch tickets to districts after standout sectional showing in Akron
Buckeye High School’s boys and girls swimming and diving program turned in a strong showing at the OHSAA Division II sectional meet in Akron, with a wave of personal-best performances capped by multiple qualifiers for next week’s district competition. Competing Saturday, the Bucks saw time drops across the lineup and advanced two individual swimmers along with the girls 4x100-yard freestyle relay to the OHSAA Northeast District meet at Cleveland State University.
Senior standout Noah Parrott led the way on the boys side by qualifying to districts in a pair of events. Parrott earned his spots in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke, showcasing versatility and speed in two of the meet’s most technical races. His advancement underscores a strong finish to his high school career and gives Buckeye a proven scorer in the championship rounds at Cleveland State.
On the girls side, junior Abby Parrott secured district berths in two events of her own, moving on in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Her ability to excel in both a mid-distance freestyle event and a backstroke sprint gives the Bucks a key presence in multiple parts of the program next week. Abby also figures prominently in relay action, setting up a busy and potentially impactful slate at the district level.
The girls 4x100-yard freestyle relay added to Buckeye’s district contingent with a qualifying performance that highlighted the team’s depth and balance. The relay of freshman Bobbie Zarobell, sophomore Maddie Dahlquist, junior Maddie Kreeger and junior anchor Abby Parrott earned its place in the Northeast District field with a strong collective effort and significant time drop. The mix of underclassmen on the relay also points to a promising future for the Bucks’ girls program beyond this postseason.
While only a select group moves on to Cleveland State, coaches and athletes alike can point to the Akron sectional as a broad step forward for Buckeye swimming and diving. Personal-best times throughout the roster indicate progress in training and race execution, and the district qualifiers now carry that momentum into a higher level of competition. With multiple events and a relay on the schedule next week, the Bucks will look to extend their postseason run and contend for spots at the state meet.
