MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye High School Athletics’ boys and girls cross country teams each finished fourth in the combined maroon and white divisions at the Woodridge CVNP Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, led by Hayleigh Kreeger and John Galayda III. The girls earned the second-place trophy in the maroon division.

Kreeger placed 12th in 21:57 on the notoriously hilly trails, with Hannah Dugan following in 20th at 22:28. Buckeye’s next three scorers finished within 11 seconds of one another: Lily Regiec was 30th in 23:24, Lila Hoover took 33rd in 23:34 and Mackenzie Anderson placed 34th in 23:35. All five reached the award podium. Their 22:59 average lowered the girls’ previous course record by more than a minute.

The close finishes continued through the girls’ sixth and seventh runners. Anna Kosman placed 60th in 25:50 and Kate Shearer finished 62nd in 25:51, completing Buckeye’s top seven. The one-second separation between Hoover and Anderson in the scoring group, followed by another one-second gap between Kosman and Shearer, gave the Bucks tightly grouped finishes at two points in their lineup.

Cameron Wyman and John Galayda III lead the team just past 1 mile.

Coach Renee Harden
Every year I think we have topped what we can do on this course and then we destroy that average the next year.

The boys placed third in the white division despite resting their No. 1 and No. 2 runners, Dimitry Pshonyak and Joe Stahl. Galayda led the lineup in 22nd place with an 18:19 finish. Nolan Rieth followed in 28th at 18:37, Cameron Wyman was 34th in 18:50 and Gavin Waibel took 48th in 19:03. All four earned podium finishes as the Bucks improved their team average from last year without their top two runners.

Bennett Knapp completed the boys’ scoring five in 52nd place at 19:10, helping establish a Buckeye course-record average of 18:47. Displacers Brant Anderson and Dylan Lough followed in 53rd and 54th at 19:12 and 19:15, respectively. Just 56 seconds separated the five scorers, while Knapp, Anderson and Lough crossed within five seconds of one another. The Bucks compete next at the Medina XC Festival on Saturday, Oct. 10.
