Bucks Battle Through Five Sets in 3-2 Loss to Bay

MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye Bucks volleyball twice evened the match before falling to Bay 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The host Bucks lost 24-26, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23, 12-15 in a five-set contest that featured two extended sets and three decided by two points.
Bay edged Buckeye in the opening set, taking a 26-24 decision to establish the early advantage. The Bucks answered in another extended finish, winning the second set 28-26. That response brought the match level at one set apiece, with neither team winning either of the opening two sets by more than the minimum two-point margin.
A 25-22 victory in the third set put Bay ahead again, but Buckeye forced a deciding set by taking the fourth 25-23. The Bucks' second match-tying response sent the contest to a fifth set, where Bay secured the victory with a 15-12 finish.
Erin Salazar led Buckeye's attack with 16 kills, while Aurora Allen contributed 11 and Katie Csach added 10. The three attackers combined for 37 kills, giving the Bucks multiple offensive contributors throughout the five-set match. Aurora Allen directed the offense with 46 assists.
Aurora Allen also contributed five aces and 16 service points, while Kelsey Willis recorded 12 service points. On defense, Avery Lewandowski finished with more than 20 digs, complementing the team-leading kill total. Greycee Holden added two block kills at the net.
Buckeye stood at 7-5 in conference play following the loss. The Bucks will look to bounce back in their next contest against Normandy High School on Thursday, Oct. 8.
