MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye High School Athletics' Bucks (8-4-2) defeated Westlake (5-10-1) 4-1 in a conference soccer match Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Medina. Tenley Winter supplied the eventual winning goal early in the second half, extending a 1-0 halftime advantage as Buckeye scored three times after the break.

Isabelle Krakowski opened the scoring at 2:42 on the first-half clock, finishing with an assist from Rya Fitzgerald. That goal gave the Bucks the only scoring of the opening half. Buckeye carried the one-goal lead into halftime before Winter converted an assist from Kelsey Velick at 37:40 on the second-half clock to make it 2-0.

Rya Fitzgerald contributed as both a creator and a scorer, adding Buckeye's third goal at 13:23 with an assist from Isabelle Krakowski. The Bucks increased their advantage to 4-0 with another goal at 8:36, assisted by Maddie Wilhelm. Westlake's Trudy Rocco scored at 2:45 to complete the scoring, but Buckeye's three-goal second half had already established the decisive margin.

Goalkeeper Carlie Gunkelman made four saves for the Bucks against five Westlake shots on goal. Buckeye finished with 10 shots, including eight on goal, and earned two corner kicks to Westlake's one. The opposing side recorded one save. Four separate assisted scoring plays highlighted the Bucks' offensive production, with Rya Fitzgerald contributing to goals in both halves.

Westlake won the junior varsity match 1-0. In the varsity contest, Buckeye paired its first-half shutout with three second-half goals to secure the 4-1 victory. The Bucks play Gilmour Academy next on Saturday, Oct. 10.
