Bucks Cap Three-Tournament Stretch With School-Record 312

The Buckeye boys golf team capped a demanding stretch of three tournaments in three days by setting a school tournament record with a 312 on Sept. 10 at the Massillon Invitational. The Bucks finished sixth at Legends Golf behind four counting scores of 78 or better, led by Cam Morton’s team-low 75 and Michael Valus’ 76.

Andy Kost added a 78, and Ben Lange completed the record-setting total with an 83. Wyatt Kujat also represented Buckeye and shot an 89. The four counting rounds combined for the 312, lowering the program’s tournament scoring record during a finale played in 78-degree conditions with thunderstorms in the area.

The three-day run began Sept. 8 at the Midview Invitational at Columbia Hills Country Club, where Buckeye placed 10th with a 332. Valus opened the week with a 78, the Bucks’ lowest round of the tournament. Kujat followed with an 83, Morton shot 85 and Ian Collins carded an 86 to complete the team score. Kost finished with an 89, while Brayden Steinhagen recorded a 94.

Buckeye returned to competition Sept. 9 for the third round of the CWC Conference Tournament at Good Park Golf. The Bucks placed sixth with a 338 as Andy Kost led the lineup with an 83. Ian Collins and Benjamin Lange each shot 84, while Wyatt Kujat and Michael Valus posted matching 87s. Augusta Dr SE completed the listed scores with an 88.

The record round at Massillon represented a 26-stroke improvement from the conference tournament and a 20-stroke drop from the Midview Invitational. Morton made the largest turnaround among the golfers who competed in the first and third events, improving from an 85 to a 75. Kost cut 11 strokes from his opening 89, while Valus broke 80 twice during the stretch and finished the three days with rounds of 78 and 76 among his results.

The Bucks will return to tournament play away from home against a field to be announced at 9 a.m. EDT Monday, Sept. 14, at Wooster Country Club. Additional tournaments are scheduled for Sept. 16 at Grey Hawk Golf Club and Sept. 20 at Weymouth Country Club.
