Bucks fall at Bay despite Snyderburn’s 22-point effort

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A decisive third-quarter surge by Bay turned a Buckeye halftime lead into a 74-70 loss for the Bucks men’s basketball team in a conference matchup Tuesday night at Bay High School.

Buckeye controlled the first half, building a nine-point cushion by halftime with efficient half-court offense and steady work on the glass. The Bucks moved the ball well against Bay’s man-to-man defense, consistently finding clean looks and attacking the lane to create inside-out opportunities. That balance allowed Buckeye to dictate tempo over the first two quarters and take momentum into the locker room.

The game flipped after the break. Bay outscored Buckeye 25-14 in the third quarter, swinging the scoreboard and the momentum in a span of eight minutes. The Rockets applied heavier ball pressure and generated points off turnovers, turning live-ball miscues into transition baskets. Buckeye’s offense, which had been patient and in rhythm before halftime, struggled to find the same spacing and shot quality during that stretch.

Despite the rough third quarter, the Bucks stayed within striking distance down the stretch. Buckeye tightened its half-court defense in the fourth quarter, forcing Bay deeper into the shot clock and contesting perimeter looks. On the offensive end, the Bucks continued to attack the paint and get to the rim, keeping the game within one or two possessions in the final minutes before Bay closed it out at the free-throw line.

Senior forward Derek Snyderburn led Buckeye with a game-high 22 points, providing consistent scoring both before and after halftime. Snyderburn was effective working from the high post and along the baseline, finishing in traffic and drawing defensive attention that opened lanes for teammates. His production helped fuel the early lead and kept Buckeye in contention even as Bay made its third-quarter run.

Buckeye also received contributions across the roster as the Bucks battled on the road in league play. Guards handled a challenging defensive assignment against Bay’s backcourt, while the frontcourt worked to limit second-chance opportunities and secure key rebounds during the Bucks’ late push. Though the comeback fell just short, the performance showed the group’s resilience in a difficult conference environment.

With the 74-70 final, Buckeye will look to carry the strong stretches from the first half and late fourth quarter into its next conference games. Cleaning up turnovers and sustaining defensive intensity through all four quarters will be key points of emphasis as the Bucks move deeper into league play.
