Bucks Men’s Bowling Punches Ticket to Districts With Third-Place Finish at OHSAA Sectionals
Buckeye High School’s Bucks Men’s Bowling team delivered on the biggest stage of the season, rolling to a third-place finish out of 17 teams at the OHSAA Sectionals on Friday at Akron’s 2911 E Waterloo Road and securing a coveted spot at districts. Behind a powerful team series and multiple standout individual performances, the Bucks proved they belong among the region’s best and extended their postseason run.
The Bucks established themselves early with a steady three-game team block of 828, 980 and 931, giving the lineup a strong foundation heading into Baker play. That 980 in the second game was a tone-setter, pushing Buckeye up the leaderboard and providing the momentum needed to stay in qualifying position. By the end of the individual games, the Bucks had firmly planted themselves in the top tier of the standings, setting up a confident transition into the crucial Baker portion of the tournament.
No performance was bigger than John’s, who finished second overall out of 88 bowlers with an impressive 668 series. His consistency and ability to capitalize on shot-making under pressure were central to Buckeye’s success. Alex added another major highlight for the Bucks, placing 12th individually with a 584 series, giving the team a critical second scorer near the top of the standings. Kevin chipped in a valuable 487 series to finish 35th, rounding out a lineup that showed both depth and composure in a high-stakes environment.
In Baker games, the Bucks continued to rise to the moment, stringing together scores of 168, 138, 180, 168, 198 and 189. The 198 and 189 games down the stretch were particularly meaningful, as they helped lock in the team’s third-place finish and secure the jump to the next round. Those late Baker surges reflected the group’s chemistry and ability to execute as a unit when every frame carried postseason implications.
What made the day especially memorable was the balance across the roster. While John, Alex and Kevin all posted notable individual series, the Sectionals format demanded total team focus, and the Bucks responded. From shot to shot and lane to lane, the athletes adjusted to conditions, picked up key spares and found timely strikes that added up in a big way on the final scoreboard. Their performance against a field of 17 teams and 88 individual competitors highlighted the program’s growth and competitive spirit.
With a third-place finish and a ticket punched to districts, Bucks Men’s Bowling has set the stage for an exciting next chapter in its postseason story. The showing at Sectionals gives the team confidence and momentum heading into district competition, and the players have proven they can perform under pressure against strong opposition. As the Bucks prepare for the next round, Buckeye High School and the surrounding community have plenty to celebrate from a standout day on the lanes—and plenty to look forward to as this group continues its postseason journey.
