MEDINA, Ohio - Buckeye High School Athletics’ competitive cheer team finished fourth among four teams at Battle at the Burg on Sunday, Oct. 11, in Strasburg, Ohio. The Bucks were less than two points behind the third-place team. Although the placement left room to climb, the team’s first competition experience brought a positive assessment of the athletes’ performance and a clear focus for the work ahead.

Buckeye also finished less than five points out of first place, putting the result in perspective beyond the final standings. The Bucks occupied the last spot in the four-team field, but the scoring gap to the winner was smaller than that placement alone might suggest. That margin gives the team a concrete benchmark as it continues through the season.

The athletes did a great job in their first experience, while the performance also revealed details that still need attention. The next step is to build on that encouraging start through continued practice, rather than a change in the team’s overall direction.

The turnaround between competitions is one week, giving Buckeye a chance to apply those adjustments promptly. The Bucks compete next at the Spartan Invite at Springfield High School on Sunday, Oct. 18.
