MEDINA, Ohio - Brooklyn DiEgidio scored the only goal at 4:24 of the second half to give the Buckeye High School Athletics girls soccer team (10-4-2) a 1-0 victory over North Olmsted (8-7-1) on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The goal was unassisted.

The teams went into halftime scoreless before DiEgidio broke the deadlock. Goalkeeper Carlie Gunkelman finished with six saves for the Bucks, stopping every North Olmsted shot on goal to secure the shutout. Buckeye’s defense protected the one-goal advantage through the remainder of the second half.

Buckeye put eight of its 12 shots on goal, making the opposing goalkeeper work despite North Olmsted’s 15-12 edge in total attempts. North Olmsted finished with six shots on goal and seven saves. The Bucks also faced a 7-4 deficit in corner kicks but kept North Olmsted off the scoreboard.

The varsity result accompanied a 2-0 Buckeye victory in the junior varsity match. Across the two contests, the Bucks scored three goals without conceding, with the varsity squad’s narrow margin settled by the lone breakthrough after a scoreless opening half.

Buckeye finished second in the conference and now turns to postseason play. The Bucks play Cloverleaf at home in their postseason opener Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m.
