Hyre Scores 32, Dolata Reaches 1,000 Points as Bucks Power Past Westlake 70-61

Behind a dominant night on the glass and a career milestone from senior forward Turner Dolata, Bucks Men’s Basketball pulled away for a 70-61 home win over Westlake in conference play Friday night at Buckeye High School.

The Bucks, who trailed by four after the first quarter, seized control of the game with a decisive 18-4 run in the second period to flip the deficit into a 32-25 halftime lead. From there, Buckeye maintained its edge by winning both the third and fourth quarters, outscoring Westlake by four in the third and five in the final frame to finish off the nine-point victory.

Offensively, the night belonged to guard Austin Hyre, who poured in a game-high 32 points to pace the Bucks. Hyre’s scoring helped steady the team early and provided key baskets throughout the second-half push as Westlake tried to rally. The Bucks complemented that performance with balanced interior play, highlighted by Dolata’s landmark moment as he recorded the 1,000th point of his varsity career.

Dolata’s milestone came as part of a physical effort in the paint that helped Buckeye control the interior on both ends. The Bucks won the rebounding battle 33-19, repeatedly limiting Westlake to one shot while generating second-chance opportunities on offense. That advantage on the boards was a central factor in the 18-4 second-quarter surge and in closing out the game late.

Logan Brown, Jacob Snyderburn and Derek Snyderburn provided key contributions defensively and in the rebounding category, helping set the tone on the perimeter and around the rim. Their activity helped disrupt Westlake’s rhythm, particularly after the first quarter, and was instrumental in holding the Demons in check during Buckeye’s extended runs.

With the 70-61 decision, the Bucks added an important conference win on their home floor, buoyed by Hyre’s 32-point performance, Dolata’s 1,000-point milestone and a dominant 33-19 edge on the glass. Buckeye now looks to build on the combination of efficient scoring and rugged defense that carried the team past Westlake and into the heart of its conference schedule.
