St. Edward broke through in the second inning and never let Buckeye settle in at the plate Saturday, handing the Bucks a 4-0 loss at ForeFront Field. The decisive early run came when Logan Faup lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the game’s first score, and St. Edward’s pitching made that lead stand up the rest of the way.
Buckeye, playing in foggy conditions with temperatures in the upper 50s, managed four hits but could not string together the timely offense needed to answer. Rees Perkins, Cole Burtzlaff, Aaron Hamman and Logan Brown each recorded one hit for the Bucks, who were held scoreless over seven innings.
Grant Lashutka set the tone for St. Edward from the outset. The right-hander worked a complete game, allowing four hits over seven shutout innings while striking out nine and walking one. Buckeye had a few chances to apply pressure, but Lashutka consistently finished at-bats and kept the Bucks from producing a breakthrough inning.
Tyler Heers started for Buckeye and took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in two innings. He struck out two and did not issue a walk. The Bucks stayed within reach early, but St. Edward added to its advantage and kept control of the game as Buckeye searched for offense.
The result dropped Buckeye in a matchup against a sharp St. Edward club at ForeFront Field, as noted in the game summary provided by GameChanger Media. With the shutout loss behind them, the Bucks now turn their attention to Monday’s road game against Normandy.
