AKRON, Ohio - Maddie Wilhelm scored late in the first half, and goalkeeper Carlie Gunkelman made six saves as Buckeye earned a 1-0 victory over Copley on Monday evening. The win improved the Bucks to 6-4-2 and dropped Copley to 2-10-1.
Wilhelm delivered the decisive goal at 33:52 of the first half. Brooklyn DiEgidio provided the assist, helping Buckeye turn its attacking pressure into the only goal it needed. The Bucks carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime and protected it throughout the second half.
Buckeye consistently tested the Copley defense, finishing with a 16-7 advantage in total shots and putting 12 attempts on goal. Copley’s goalkeeper made 11 saves to keep the margin at one, but Wilhelm’s finish ensured the Bucks’ pressure was rewarded. The teams each earned four corner kicks.
At the other end, Gunkelman stopped all six of Copley’s shots on goal to complete the clean sheet. Buckeye’s defense limited the hosts to seven total attempts and held firm as Copley searched for an equalizer after halftime. The composed defensive performance allowed the Bucks to turn their first-half breakthrough into a road victory.
