#3 Cascade Football Beats No. 5 Estacada 34-20 Behind Five Hughes Touchdowns
TURNER, Ore. - Cascade High School defeated No. 5 Estacada 34-20 in its homecoming football game Friday, Oct. 9, at home, sealing the victory with an 87-yard touchdown pass to Jay Erickson. The Cougars finished with 376 yards of total offense.
Madden Hughes accounted for all five Cascade touchdowns, throwing four touchdown passes and adding a rushing score. Hughes completed 8-of-13 passes for 230 yards. Erickson turned both of his receptions into touchdowns, finishing with 108 receiving yards and providing the long scoring play that secured the win.
Wyatt Kerrigan led the Cougars on the ground with 49 yards on 11 carries, averaging about 4.5 yards per attempt. Kerrigan supplied most of Cascade's 146 rushing yards, giving the offense a productive running game alongside Hughes' four-touchdown passing performance.
Cascade's defense delivered two key stops against the ranked opponent. The Cougars denied Estacada a score with a goal-line stand at the 2-yard line, keeping that possession out of the endzone. Josiah Hawkins also intercepted a pass heading into halftime. In the 2nd half, Jay Erickson was able to intercept an Estacada pass that sealed the homecoming victory for the Cougars.
The homecoming game also included a tribute to Mason Flores from Sweet Home. Cascade fans raised $2,556 for the Flores family, adding a community contribution to the night's league victory. The Cougars play next at home against Stayton on this upcoming Friday for senior night.
