Cascade Falls 4-0 to Thurston in Nonleague Match

Cascade High School dropped a 4-0 non league girls soccer match to Thurston on Thursday, Sept. 10. Thurston’s opening goal proved to be the decisive score, and Thurston added three more while keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard.

The result was defined by Thurston’s four-goal production and clean sheet. Cascade was unable to find the finish needed to answer Thurston's breakthrough, leaving the Cougars to chase the match as Thurston expanded its advantage. The Cougars continued searching for a response, but Thurston protected its lead through the final whistle.

Cascade’s defense faced sustained pressure from an opponent that converted enough opportunities to create separation. Although the Cougars could not prevent Thurston from adding to its lead, the non league contest gave Cascade another chance to work through its defensive organization and attacking buildup before the league portion of the schedule.

The match was played in partly cloudy conditions with a game-time temperature of 78 degrees and winds at 13 mph. Cascade finished with no goals, while Thurston left Turner with four goals and the shutout.

The Cougars will continue their non league schedule on the road against Molalla at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 15th. This match begins a stretch of three consecutive road contests before Cascade returns home to open league play against Central.
