Cascade Falls to Stayton in Four Sets Decided by Two Points

TURNER, Ore. - Cascade High School lost 3-1 to host Stayton on Tuesday, Oct. 6th , with all four sets decided by two points. The Cougars stayed close throughout the league volleyball match before the Eagles prevailed 26-24, 26-28, 31-29, 25-23.
After dropping the opening set, Cascade answered with a 28-26 victory in the second to even the match at one set apiece. Both teams pushed beyond the standard 25-point finish in that set, beginning a stretch of extended play that continued into the third.
The third set produced the match’s longest battle, with Stayton needing 31 points to secure a 31-29 win and take a 2-1 lead. Cascade remained within reach in the fourth, but the Eagles closed out the match 25-23. Neither side created much separation at the finish of any set, keeping the rivalry matchup competitive through the final points.
Kade Lane led Cascade’s attack with 27 kills and added 16 digs while moving from middle blocker to an all-around outside-hitter role in the first two sets. London Oliver contributed 14 kills and four aces, finishing with a .952 serving percentage. She played both outside hitter and defensive specialist in an all-around role, contributing at the net, from the service line and in the back row.
Cascade used several front-row players in different positions. Natalie Sannan spent time at outside hitter, while Presley schrader played in the middle. The shifting assignments were part of a competitive performance in which the Cougars kept every set close.
On defense, Macie Theis recorded 33 digs. Caitlyn Davies and Lane also spent time in the back row, giving Cascade contributions from several players as the match stretched through four tightly contested sets. The two-point margins contrasted with the 21-6 split across the rivals’ past 27 games.
Cascade will look to bounce back in its next contest against Taft on Thursday, October 8th.
