CORVALLIS, Ore. - Cascade High School set the tone on its first offensive snap and rolled to a 49-0 season-opening victory over Crescent Valley on Friday night. Wyatt Kerrigan broke free for a 45-yard run on the first play, immediately putting the Cougars on the attack and beginning a dominant all-around performance.

Wyatt Kerrigan was a central part of the Cascade offense, finishing with 104 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Madden Hughes completed 9 of 12 passes for 85 yards and added a rushing touchdown, giving the Cougars efficient production through the air and another scoring option on the ground.

Cascade's special teams also delivered game-changing plays. Jay Erickson blocked a punt, recovered the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown. Josiah Hawkins added a punt return for a touchdown, turning another Crescent Valley possession directly into points for the Cougars.

Josiah Hawkins contributed three catches for 48 yards, and his performance also included a punt return for a touchdown. Those explosive special-teams contributions complemented an offense that consistently capitalized on its opportunities and built the margin to seven touchdowns.

The Cascade defense completed the effort by keeping Crescent Valley off the scoreboard. Playing in cloudy and rainy conditions with a game-time temperature of 61 degrees, the Cougars opened the season with productive offense, multiple special-teams scores and a shutout on the road.

Cascade will remain on the road for its next game, traveling to face Sandy at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
