ASTORIA, Ore. - Cascade recovered from a two-point loss in the opening set and defeated Astoria 3-1 on Tuesday night, ending a three-match losing streak with a 24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 nonleague victory.

The Cougars were unable to close out a tight first set, which Astoria claimed 26-24. Cascade responded decisively in the second, establishing its attack and pulling away for a 25-16 win that evened the match. The Cougars maintained that momentum with a 25-18 victory in the third set before finishing the match 25-19 in the fourth.

Middle blocker Kade Lane led the offense with 19 kills as Cascade repeatedly found openings against Astoria's coverage. Setter Zoe Northrup directed the attack with 41 assists, helping the Cougars generate consistent opportunities across the front row after the narrow opening-set loss.

Coach Cristina Williams
"It definitely was a team win last night. The girls worked hard together and stayed calm and collected and had some great defense!"

Cascade also produced pressure from the service line. Outside hitter and opposite London Oliver recorded three aces, while defensive specialist and outside hitter Vanessa Ravera added three aces. Libero and defensive specialist Maci Theis anchored the back row with 27 digs, extending rallies and giving the Cougars chances to transition into their offense.

At the net, Cascade took advantage when Astoria struggled to cover the Cougars' hitters. Middle blocker and right-side hitter Presley Schrader recorded three blocks, providing a key part of a successful blocking effort that limited Astoria's options and helped Cascade control the final three sets.

The win improved Cascade to 4-3 and moved the Cougars to No. 5 in the OSAA rankings. Astoria, ranked No. 30, fell to 0-4. Cascade next travels to the Sisters Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 19th.
