Cascade Rolls Past Central 40-7 Behind Explosive Plays and Stout Defense
INDEPENDENCE, Ore. - Cascade turned a field-goal block into a 98-yard touchdown and pulled away for a 40-7 victory over Central in its league opener Friday night. Josiah supplied a long return, helping the Cougars earn a decisive road win against their first Class 4A opponent of the season.
The Cougars produced 40 points with an offense that found multiple ways to break through Central’s defense. Wyatt Kerrigan finished with 120 yards and a touchdown, providing another big-play threat as Cascade pushed its season yardage total to 1,002.
Weston Shewell powered the rushing attack with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. His biggest run came in the third quarter, when he broke free for a 41-yard touchdown that added to Cascade’s advantage and kept the Cougars firmly in control.
Cascade also created opportunities on special teams. In addition to Josiah’s 98-yard touchdown return, Jameson recovered a fumble on a punt, giving the Cougars another possession and helping maintain pressure on Central.
The defense complemented those explosive plays by limiting Central to seven points. Cascade prevented the Panthers from matching the Cougars’ scoring pace and completed a balanced performance on a clear, 66-degree evening in Independence.
Cascade returns home to face Molalla at 7 p.m. Friday, September 25th. The Cougars will look to build on a league-opening performance that featured production from the offense, a touchdown from special teams and a defense that allowed only one score.
