TURNER, Ore. - Cascade High School fell to Marist Catholic in three sets Thursday night, dropping the nonleague volleyball match 25-10, 25-19, 25-14. Marist's powerful attack and precise placement kept pressure on the Cougars throughout the match.

Marist established control with a 25-10 victory in the opening set. Its strong hitters repeatedly challenged Cascade's back row, while an energetic defensive effort helped the visitors keep rallies alive and find openings on the Cougars' side of the court.

Cascade delivered its strongest response in the second set. The Cougars improved their play at the net, produced effective swings through the middle and extended rallies by keeping difficult balls off the floor. That effort allowed Cascade to stay more competitive before Marist closed out the set 25-19 for a two-set lead.

"We could have communicated better as a team and communicated better"

Vanessa, a No. 10 defensive specialist and outside hitter, contributed in every phase. She made several strong digs from the back row and remained a consistent attacking option with swings from both the front and back rows. Her all-around work helped Cascade continue competing against Marist's sustained pressure.

Middle blocker Natalie Sannan, No. 13, provided another bright spot with aggressive swings from the middle. Sannan repeatedly drove the ball into the deep left corner, producing points and chances that energized Cascade's bench, players on the court and home crowd. The Cougars continued looking to their middle attack in the third set, but Marist's hitters and placement carried the visitors to a 25-14 win that completed the sweep.

Cascade will return home Saturday, September 12th for their home volleyball tournament. The Cougars will look to build on their second-set improvement, middle attack and determined back-row play.

"Mentally it's difficult to push through when the team wasn't doing good, physically it was difficult trying to block their huge hitters"
