Cascade High School defeated Newport 3-0 on Tuesday, September 29, in Newport, winning 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 in a varsity volleyball league match. The Cougars paired consistent serving with clean rotations and few hitting errors, then delivered their most decisive set to finish the road sweep.

Cascade took the opening set by three points, establishing a lead in the match despite the narrow margin. The Cougars controlled the tempo through their serving and maintained that approach in the second set. A 25-21 victory put Cascade ahead two sets to none and one set away from closing out Newport.

Maci Theis, wearing No. 7, anchored the defensive effort with 29 digs. That contribution stood out in a match in which Cascade combined its defensive work with low-error attacks. Zoe Northrup, No. 5, finished with a 0.305 setting percentage, adding another individual performance to the Cougars’ three-set victory.

Newport struggled to establish consistency and rhythm against Cascade’s servers. The Cougars kept their rotations clean throughout the match, limiting the hitting mistakes that could have helped Newport regain its footing. After the closer opening two sets, Cascade took firmer control in the third and won by eight points, its largest set margin of the evening.

The 25-17 finish completed a sweep in which Cascade increased its winning margin in each successive set, from three points to four and then eight. The Cougars will look to win another game in their next contest on this evening against Philomath.
