A last-minute goal broke a scoreless tie and handed Cascade High School a 1-0 loss to Philomath in a varsity girls soccer league match Thursday, October 1, in Turner. The Cougars held Philomath scoreless until the closing minute, when the visitors scored against goalkeeper Parker Randall to decide the match.
Cascade’s defensive effort kept the contest level through the first half and nearly all of the second. Randall was among the Cougars’ standout performers, helping keep Philomath off the scoreboard until the late breakthrough. With neither team scoring before that moment, the match remained within reach for Cascade throughout the scoreless stretch, and one goal proved to be the difference.
Natalie Nunez, Kaitlyn Webb, Hayden Cantrell and Gracie Fisher also stood out for the Cougars. Alongside Randall, those players highlighted Cascade’s effort in a tightly decided league contest. The Cougars finished without a goal, leaving their sustained scoreless stand as the central positive from a match that was still tied entering its final minute.
Cascade will hit the road for its next league matchup, scheduled for 6 p.m against Stayton on Tuesday, October 6th.
