GAYLORD, Mich. - Gaylord St. Mary's turned an early change of possession into an 82-yard touchdown and capitalized on Central Lake-Ellsworth mistakes throughout a 54-0 victory Thursday evening. The Snowbirds used their size, speed, and physical play to control the matchup.

The Knights opened with a long drive that gave them a chance to establish their offense, but the possession ended in a turnover on downs. Gaylord St. Mary's responded immediately, connecting on an 82-yard touchdown pass on its first offensive play. The sudden swing halted Central Lake-Ellsworth's momentum and gave the Snowbirds the first of several big plays.

Gaylord St. Mary's kept taking advantage of favorable situations as the lead grew. With the Snowbirds ahead 32-0, they attempted an onside kick, recovered it, and later turned the extra possession into another touchdown. Central Lake-Ellsworth continued to compete, but explosive plays and field-position pressure kept the Knights from mounting a scoring response.

Bardy Roggenbeck led the Knights' offense on the ground, carrying 10 times for 62 yards. Roggenbeck also completed 8 of 15 passes for 13 yards. Bill Hopp added 29 rushing yards on five attempts and caught one pass for 7 yards, while Riley Shafer gained 23 yards on three carries. Josiah Chellis finished with two receptions for 9 yards.

Central Lake-Ellsworth's defense produced steadily despite repeatedly facing Gaylord St. Mary's physical attack. Mason Henderson paced the Knights with nine tackles, Nolan Essenberg recorded seven, and Riley Shafer and Josiah Chellis made six apiece. Bill Hopp added two tackles as the Knights worked to contain a Snowbirds offense that consistently converted Central Lake-Ellsworth's mistakes into points.

CLE will host Onaway in another conference showdown Friday night for the annual Patriots Game. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM at the Herrick Athletic Complex.
