Central Lake-Ellsworth Runners Build Momentum Ahead of October Championship Slate

ELLSWORTH, Mich. - Central Lake-Ellsworth enters October with personal records, season-best performances and a narrowing gap against a familiar opponent highlighting its progress. The Knights have continued to cut times throughout the season, building confidence before a demanding closing stretch that includes two championship races on consecutive days.
Ryder Chellis and Mason Dawson have led the boys at the front of the pack, while the middle group has steadily improved behind them. That development has been especially important in the Knights' season-long competition with Mackinaw City, whose depth through the middle has made the difference in team scoring more than once. Central Lake-Ellsworth has gradually broken into that group and reduced the margin with each race.
Lily Coen has consistently set the pace for the girls, with progress appearing throughout the lineup. Scarlett Faivor and Lilly Mosley have recorded substantial time drops, and season-best efforts across the team have added to the Knights' momentum heading into the final month.
Central Lake-Ellsworth's middle school runners have also remained competitive near the front. Marlee Pletcher has assembled a string of first-place finishes, while Sawyer Strange and Michael Hopp have regularly raced among the leaders.
The Knights will begin their October schedule at the Mancelona Invite on Oct. 7. The meet provides an important preview of the same course that will host the regional competition later in the month. Central Lake-Ellsworth will then compete at the LeRoy Maxie Invite on Oct. 10.
The busiest portion of the schedule follows with the Ski Valley Conference Championship on Oct. 14 and the NLC Final on Oct. 15. After those back-to-back championship races, the Knights have one final meet scheduled for Oct. 21 at a location to be determined before returning to Mancelona for regionals Oct. 31.
