Central Lake-Ellsworth answered an opening-drive touchdown with 60 unanswered points to defeat Detour-Cedarville 60-6 on Friday, Oct. 16, in Cedarville. The Knights piled up 484 total yards.

The Islanders drove down the field on their first possession for a 6-0 lead, but the Knights took over. Brady Roggenbeck completed 3-of-5 passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Nolan Essenberg completed a 63-yard touchdown pass on the only attempt. Central Lake-Ellsworth finished with 154 passing yards.

Roggenbeck also led the ground attack with 150 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, including an 84-yard run. Mason Henderson gained 61 yards on two carries, highlighted by a 58-yard run, and scored a touchdown. Riley Shafer turned two carries into 56 yards and two touchdowns.

Head Coach Chase Hibbard
“The travel, weather, and distracting school events that Cedarville had going on influenced our slow start to the game, with Cedarville scoring on their first drive of the game. Our boys responded well, giving up only 20 yards the rest of the game. The boys knew the adjustments they needed to make. Our goal again this week was to be 1-0 and make that next step forward toward playing perfectly. We stepped up offensively this week and made significant improvements in our blocking. This game gave us more confidence in our ability as we roll into our last game of the season, a game that we must win to have a playoff berth.”

Bill Hopp contributed touchdowns as both a runner and receiver. Hopp caught two passes for 94 yards and two scores, including a 63-yard reception, and rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Josiah Chellis added 49 yards and a touchdown on two carries, including a 31-yard run. Shafer also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Chellis led the defense with nine tackles and an interception. Shafer recorded eight tackles, including two for loss, while Nolyn Whisler made seven tackles with three for loss. Henderson finished with five tackles and one tackle for loss, and Essenberg added five tackles and an interception.

The Knights (6-2) will take on St. Igance (7-1) on Thursday night. The critical matchup could determine the Knights' playoff fate.
