Knights Score on First Two Offensive Plays, Reach End Zone in All Three Phases
Fife Lake, Mich. - Central Lake-Ellsworth scored on its first two offensive plays and delivered touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams against Forest Area on Friday, October 2. The Knights paired a productive rushing attack with a touchdown pass, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and a punt return touchdown.
The opening scores set the pace for an offense that produced six rushing touchdowns. Josiah Chellis carried twice for 91 yards and two touchdowns, while Bill Hopp added 83 yards and two scores on two carries. Both runners turned limited touches into substantial production as the Knights repeatedly reached the end zone on the ground.
Brady Roggenbeck contributed through the air and on the ground, completing 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards and a touchdown while rushing twice for 61 yards and another score. Nolan Essenberg caught a 25-yard touchdown pass for the lone reception. Riley Shafer added 33 yards and a touchdown on two carries, and Tristan Druckenmiller supplied a two-point conversion run.
Chellis also led the defensive effort with nine tackles, including one tackle for loss. Shafer recorded five tackles, one for loss, and returned an interception for a touchdown, contributing scoring plays on both sides of the ball. The Knights' defense supplemented the offense with points of its own rather than relying solely on stops.
Max Disbrow finished with three tackles, and JD Kline matched that total while adding a tackle for loss. Forrest Wilson returned another interception for a touchdown, giving the Knights two defensive scores. Those returns added to a performance that featured touchdowns through the air and on the ground.
Special teams completed the Knights' scoring contributions across all three phases. Kalen Altergott returned a punt for a touchdown.
