Clackamas Girls Soccer Celebrates Eight Seniors on Senior Night
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Clackamas High School girls soccer honored eight seniors alongside their friends and families during senior night Tuesday, Oct. 20, on its home field.
All eight seniors walked to the halfway line accompanied by the people who had supported them throughout their time in the program. The ceremony recognized the years of dedication the graduating players had given to Clackamas soccer, bringing friends and family onto the field to share in that recognition.
Each senior received gifts from parents, the school, and the local community, including graduation cords and gift cards. Those contributions gave the celebration a reach beyond the team itself, with supporters from across Clackamas helping recognize the senior class as the players approached the close of their high school soccer careers and the true beginning of young adulthood.
Three seniors added goals to their night of appreciation: Scielo Torres, Dayanara Ledesma-Arias, and Sydney Turner. Scielo's goal came from a cross, as did Sydney's, assisted by Angie Vaquerano and Makenna Swezbin, respectively; while Dayanara's came from a drive by her through their defensive line. Sophomore Angie Vaquerano and junior Ava Vermillion also scored, giving Clackamas five different goal scorers for the match. At the other end of the field, the defensive line were composed and worked well to dominate the game and secure the shutout.
The evening featured a 5-0 victory over the Gresham Gophers, a great win for senior night. The athletes throughout the Clackamas girls soccer program extend their thanks to coaches Bart Yanoch, Angela May and Jonathan Vaquerano, athletic director John Arnston, as well as the generous parents and greater Clackamas community whose contributions helped make the senior night celebration possible.
Now, after a later, deciding tie game versus their rivals, the Adreinne C. Nelson's girls' team, the Clackamas Cavaliers are headed into the play-ins on Tuesday, October 27, for a home game against the Sheldon Irish from Eugene, and hope to advance to the next round. Go Cavs!
