Snyder’s Late Free Throws Lift College of the Ozarks Past Central Christian, 78-75

College of the Ozarks used clutch free-throw shooting from Garrett Snyder in the closing seconds to pull out a 78-75 win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon at Keeter Gym. Snyder knocked down two free throws to break a 75-75 tie with under 15 seconds to play, then added one more at the buzzer to seal the three-point victory after a back-and-forth second half.

Snyder led the Bobcats with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 8-of-12 at the line, adding six rebounds and two steals. College of the Ozarks trailed 42-41 at halftime after Central Christian closed the first half on a surge, but the Bobcats answered after the break with steadier defense and timely scoring to outscore the visitors 37-33 in the second half. The win lifted the hosts in front of 225 fans in a game that featured multiple lead changes over the final 10 minutes.

Central Christian appeared to wrest momentum away just before the break. College of the Ozarks had built a 30-18 lead midway through the first half on a 3-pointer from Jay Baxter, but the Tigers responded with a series of baskets, capped by a jumper from Travis King in the final seconds that gave Central Christian its first lead, 42-41, heading into the locker room. Central Christian shot 54.4% from the floor for the game and finished with 31 made field goals, consistently finding good looks to stay within striking distance.

The second half turned into a series of runs. College of the Ozarks regrouped defensively and eventually reclaimed the lead, but Central Christian continued to answer. Chris Whitten, who paced the Tigers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, drilled a 3-pointer with 6:29 remaining to put Central Christian ahead 66-65. Moments later, Andre Cooper knocked down a jumper for a 71-69 advantage, and Jaeden Whitten extended the margin to 73-69 with 3:46 left as the visitors threatened to take control.

College of the Ozarks responded by tightening up defensively and getting to the free-throw line. The Bobcats finished 17-of-24 at the stripe compared to Central Christian’s 7-of-9, a 10-point edge that proved decisive in a one-possession game. While Central Christian held a 30-24 rebounding advantage and shot at a higher overall percentage, the Bobcats offset those numbers by drawing fouls, committing just six turnovers, and hitting seven 3-pointers to the Tigers’ six.

Down the stretch, Snyder took over. With the game knotted at 75 in the final seconds, the Bobcats put the ball in the hands of their leading scorer, who attacked, drew contact and converted the go-ahead free throws with 12 seconds remaining for a 77-75 lead. After a final defensive stand, Snyder returned to the line at the buzzer and split a pair to push the final margin to 78-75, capping a composed late-game sequence for College of the Ozarks.

Behind the Whitten brothers, Central Christian stayed close throughout. Chris Whitten’s 22 points and four rebounds, coupled with 19 points and five boards from Jaeden Whitten, anchored the Tigers’ offense. Andruw Rondon added 11 points and eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, while Cooper chipped in six assists from the backcourt. Still, the Bobcats’ ability to limit turnovers and convert late at the line made the difference, giving College of the Ozarks a hard-fought home win in a tightly contested matchup.
