Detroit Cristo Rey’s Lady Wolves captured the MHSAA District 88 softball championship Saturday, outlasting Detroit Edison 23-13 in an offense-filled title game in Detroit. The decisive moment came when Judit Rodriguez scored the winning run on heads-up baserunning, capping a determined performance that delivered the Lady Wolves back- to- back district championship.

The Lady Wolves met Detroit Edison in a game that demanded both patience and resilience. While the bats stayed hot throughout the afternoon, Detroit Cristo Rey also tightened up in the field as the game moved along. After battling through an early offensive back-and-forth, the Wolves cleaned up their defense and got steadier work in the circle, a combination that allowed them to keep applying pressure until the game tilted their way.

It was a complete team effort, led by strong contributions across the lineup and around the diamond. Gabriella Ramirez delivered offensive power and provided a steady presence behind the plate, helping guide the defense through a high-scoring game. In the circle, Isabella Alaniz kept Detroit Edison’s hitters off balance and helped the Lady Wolves settle in as the championship game unfolded.

Detroit Cristo Rey also got a big lift from Isabella Callaghan, who stepped into a new role at third base and came through in key moments. Victoria Hutchinson added to the celebration with a strong day at the plate on her birthday, while Amy Cruz-Torres made contact offensively and kept plays in front of her in right field, giving the Lady Wolves steady work on both sides of the ball.

That all-around performance reflected the way Detroit Cristo Rey won this championship, with timely hitting, improving defense, alert baserunning and contributions from up and down the roster. Coaches and players alike helped fuel the effort, and the Lady Wolves’ consistency showed when it mattered most. By the final out, the 23-run outburst and cleaner play in the field had turned a challenging championship game into a title-clinching celebration for Detroit Cristo Rey.
