TOKYO, Japan - First Baptist Christian Academy hit zero on the national stage Friday night, completing a mistake-free routine to claim first place at Cheer Team Nationals. The Crusaders separated themselves from 10 other competitors by cleanly executing all 15 stunts in their routine, earning the winning result while no other team in the field finished without an error.
The decisive performance featured a superman stunt and a series of demanding tumbling elements set to a One Direction mashup. Every transition stayed sharp, every stunt held and the team maintained its timing throughout the routine. FBCA's ability to hit zero, meaning the Crusaders completed the performance without a deduction-producing mistake, proved to be the difference in a field of 11 teams.
Emily delivered one of the routine's biggest individual highlights with a triple backflip followed by a double front flip into the splits. The difficult sequence added energy to the performance while showcasing the preparation and athleticism behind the Crusaders' championship effort. Emily completed the combination cleanly, helping FBCA preserve its flawless score sheet.
Another memorable moment came during the “What Makes You Beautiful” portion of the mashup. All 12 performers, Emily, two athletes named Bailey, Piper, Bela, Abby, Ashlee, Lisa, Elsa, Anna, Kylee and Kami, completed synchronized backflips. The timing and precision drew a loud response from the crowd and provided one of the clearest examples of the teamwork that powered the winning routine.
Cheer coach Ms. Holly expressed pride in the team after the performance. That pride reflected more than the first-place finish. The Crusaders handled the pressure of nationals, stayed composed through a packed routine and delivered every planned skill without a mistake. Their 1-0 winning result capped a standout night for First Baptist Christian Academy and gave the school a national championship performance to celebrate.
