Frankel Jewish Academy broke the game open with an eight-run third inning and rode a dominant start from senior Max Upfall to a 13-0 victory over Henry Ford Academy in a five-inning home game Tuesday in Wixom.
The Jaguars scored in every inning they came to the plate, putting up two runs in the first, two more in the second, eight in the third and one in the fourth before the game ended with Frankel ahead 13-0. The home team did not bat in the fifth. Frankel finished with 13 runs on 10 hits, while Henry Ford was held to one hit and four baserunners total.
The decisive stretch came in the third, when Frankel turned a manageable 4-0 lead into a rout. Multiple hitters fueled the outburst, including Austin Squarcia, Noam Kantor, Drew Edelstein and Louie Kowalsky. Squarcia, the Jaguars catcher, went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a home run. Kantor added a home run and three RBIs, and Kowalsky, the first baseman, delivered two hits and four RBIs.
Upfall handled the rest on the mound. The Frankel starter threw five scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked three and struck out 12 to earn the win. He gave up only four baserunners all game and kept Henry Ford from mounting any sustained threat. Upfall also contributed at the plate, finishing 1 for 2 with an RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
Frankel showed patience throughout the lineup, drawing nine walks and striking out only five times in 21 at-bats. Tyler took the loss for Henry Ford Academy, allowing 13 runs, 12 earned, on 10 hits over four innings. The Jaguars also got the steady production described in the team notes, scoring in every inning of the shortened game and controlling play from the opening frame through the final out.
