Biery, Layton and Maloy Earn Frontier Conference Volleyball Weekly Honors

HELENA, Mont. - Montana Tech swept the attacker and setter awards, while Montana State-Northern secured the defender honor in the fifth installment of the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Women’s Volleyball Players of the Week. Madison Biery and Rhys Layton helped the Orediggers complete a perfect 3-0 week in conference play and extend their winning streak to 10 matches. Kambria Maloy anchored the Montana State-Northern defense during a 2-1 homestand that included a pair of victories.

Biery, a junior middle hitter from Boise, Idaho, earned Attacker of the Week after recording 31 kills across 11 sets, an average of 2.82 per set. She committed only five errors on 51 attacks for a .510 hitting percentage and added seven blocks. Biery opened with 10 kills and a .467 hitting percentage in a four-set victory over Montana Western, then delivered 11 kills and five total blocks in a four-set win against Bismarck State. She closed the week with a nearly flawless performance in a sweep of Dickinson State, putting down 10 kills on 13 swings without an error for a .769 hitting percentage. Biery leads the NAIA with a .485 season hitting percentage, and the award is the second of her career.

Layton directed Montana Tech's’s attack with consistency and production, earning Setter of the Week for the eighth time in her career. The senior setter from Eagle, Idaho, amassed 121 assists in 11 sets, averaging 11 assists per set, while contributing 31 digs, seven kills and five total blocks. Layton began the week with 40 assists and 10 digs against Montana Western. She added another double-double in the win over Bismarck State, finishing with 39 assists and a team-high 18 digs, before distributing 42 assists in the sweep of Dickinson State. Layton now has five double-doubles this season and has reached 40 assists in three matches.

Maloy’s back-row excellence earned the junior libero from Florence, Arizona, the first Frontier Conference weekly honor of her career. She collected 77 digs over 12 sets for an impressive average of 6.42 digs per set. Maloy opened with 29 digs against No. 7 Providence and surpassed 1,000 career digs during the match. She followed with 13 digs in a three-set victory over Valley City State, then produced her best performance of the week with 35 digs in a five-set win against Mayville State. Maloy averaged at least 6.5 digs per set in two matches and also supplied seven assists and seven service aces.

Biery’s efficiency at the net, Layton’s command of the Montana Tech offense and Maloy’s relentless defense highlighted an outstanding week across the Frontier Conference. Their performances combined individual milestones with winning contributions, giving each athlete a well-earned place among the conference’s weekly honorees.
