Dickinson State edges Dakota State to win first Frontier Women's Indoor Track & Field team title

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Dickinson State (N.D.) edged Dakota State (S.D.) by two points in a thrilling inaugural Frontier Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field team title Sunday at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

The Dickinson State women totaled 144 points to narrowly top Dakota State’s 142, with Montana Tech third at 128 and Bismarck State (N.D.) fourth with 102 in the 18-event scoring slate.

DiSU's Kori Nagel added a victory in the women’s shot put at 15.40 meters (50 feet, 6.25 inches), providing a double-gold haul in the ring. Her shot put ranks second in the NAIA after Sunday's meet.

While Dickinson State controlled the team race, one of the weekend’s most impressive individual efforts came from Bellevue distance runner Grace Steinmetz, who swept three women’s events. Steinmetz won a pair of titles Sunday, winning the 1-mile run in 5 minutes, 13.67 and closed the meet with the 3,000-meter run title in 10:08.06 , stamping her mark on the distance events. She was named the conference's track athlete of the meet after scoring 30 points for the Bruins.

The Blue Hawks' field squad added title in the high jump, led by Adarra Hagelund after clearing the height of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches). She tied her season best and ranked first in the NAIA women's high jump. Dickinson State also won the triple jump title by Faith Brennan with 11.87 meters leap (38 feet, 11.5 inches).

Charlize Davis of Rocky Mountain won the 60-meter hurdles title in 8.76 seconds. Her teammate Maya Pearcy won the 800-meter run title with a new personal record time of 2:10.74, ranking her third best in the NAIA.

Priviledge Bower of Bismarck State captured the 60-meter dash title in 7.69 seconds and the 200-meter dash with her season best time of 25.09 seconds. The Mystics added the 600-meter run title by Tsitsi Karanda in 1:37.41.

Bismarck State closed the two-day conference meet by winning the 4 x 400-meter relay in 3 minutes, 58.31 seconds.

Across sprints, distance, field events and relays, the inaugural Frontier Conference Indoor Championships produced balanced scoring and standout performances that established early benchmarks for the league.
