Montana Tech Women's Outdoor Track & Field Triumphs Despite Adverse Weather at 2025 FC Conference Meet

HELENA, Mont. – After a closely tight race after the first day of the 2025 Frontier Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship, presented by First Interstate Bank, Montana Tech pulled away to earn their fourth consecutive conference title. The athletes braved through challenging weather conditions (wet and cold) at Vigilante Stadium. The Orediggers captured six event titles Monday, fueling to the team title with 202 points. Host-team Carroll finished second with 174 points, followed by Rocky Mountain third with 141 points. Providence was fourth 122 points and Montana Western placed fifth with 33 points. Abby Clark highlighted the Orediggers after winning the high jump with the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying mark. She cleared the height of 1.66 meters (5 feet, 5.25 inches). Clark was awarded as the Frontier Conference Women’s Field Athlete-of-the-Meet after scoring 30 points in the field events. She won three different field titles, the heptathlon, the long jump, and the high jump. It was her fourth straight conference Field Athlete-of-the-Meet award. Montana Tech also won the triple jump by Ayla Janzen (11 meters – 36 feet, 1.25 inches), the 100-meter hurdles by Olleca Severson (14.82 seconds), the 400-meter dash by MaKenzie Sheils (1:00.59), and the 5000-meter run by Alyssa Plant (18:40.47). MT’s Alyssa Jany repeated the Frontier Track Athlete-of-the-Meet award with 24 points. She won the 3000-meter steeplechase, second in the 10,000-meters, and finished third in Monday’s 5000-meter run. The Orediggers closed the conference meet by winning the 4 x 400-meter relay in 4 minutes, 7.62 seconds. Chuck Merrifield was named to the Frontier Conference Women’s Track & Field Coach-of-the-Year after guiding MT to their four-peat title. Providence’s Lauren Cima won her second throwing title in the conference meet, winning the shot-put title with 13.54 meters mark (44 feet, 5.25 inches). Kellan Wahl of Rocky Mountain won a pair of sprint titles, winning the 100-meters in 12.15 seconds and the 200-meters in 25.40 seconds. Maya Pearcy of RMC also added the 800-meter run title in 2:16.14. Carroll captured three titles on the second day of the conference meet. The Fighting Saints won the 4 x 100-meter relay in 48.98 seconds, the 1500-meter run by Madalen Shipman in 5:02.75, and the 400-meter hurdles by Clarie Bucklin in 1:05.12. The NAIA national office will officially announce the outdoor track & field national qualifiers next week. The national meet is scheduled for May 21-23 in Marion, Ind., hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
