Rocky Mountain hangs onto lead at Frontier/Cal Pac Women's Golf NAIA Qualifier

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The women's golfers from Rocky Mountain College maintained their lead after Tuesday’s Round 2 of the Cal Pac/Frontier Conference NAIA Qualifier held at Papago Golf Club. Grace Metcalf again led the way for the Battlin’ Bears with a 6-over-par 78 on the second of the three-round tournament, checking in at 8-over 152 two-thirds of the way through the championship. That score put the junior five shots ahead of teammate Isabella Downing, who shot 81 Tuesday, for the individual lead. Rocky’s women carded a team score of 329 Tuesday to hold the lead with a 36-hole score of 643. Montana Tech sits second in the team standings. The Orediggers made up a stroke in Round 2, shooting a round-low score of 328 to check in at 657. Carroll (702) stands third, followed by Soka (719), Providence Christian (740), and California Maritime (921). Montana Tech’s Kodie Hoagland shot 82 to move into sole possession of third in the individual standings at 163 strokes. Simpson’s Michelle Euan (75-89—164) is fourth on the leaderboard, and Tech’s Casha Corder (83-82—165) and Emma Woods (85-80—165) are tied for fifth. In order to receive an automatic berth to the NAIA national championship, the Frontier and Cal Pac conferences cooperated to meet the minimum number of six participating teams. Second-round results, final-round pairings, and live results for the duration of the tournament are available through Golf Genius. The qualifier will proceed with its second round Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. PDT.
